My Valentines | 1987-2010 ....completed For 21 years, Lucy Hilmer mailed a Valentine postcard of her daughter, Annie, to just about everyone her family ever knew. It was a classic, B&W portrait of Annie in an ever-changing relationship to a rose and some abstracted portion of her black-sweatered dad. "Annie cards" are all over the world now, archived in albums, stuck on refrigerator doors, pinned on bulletin boards in all sorts of offices. In 2010, a book, MY VALENTINES, 21 Years of Portraits from the Family Album, was published by Flower Films Press, and a companion piece, 30 minute film, RECORDING RITES, premiered at the Mendociino Film Festival. The following institutions have catalogued the book, MY VALENTINES: *Getty Museum Research Library *Peter Palmquist Collection @ The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library *The Indie Photobook Library *The Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, France.
